GNU/Hurd artificial intelligence server?

Hello GNU hackers.

We are two computer science students from Greece, and we are thinking
about starting a project concerning an artificial intelligence system.
This system may be implemented as a GNU/hurd server. We haven't done
anything so far. The system will probably support human's voice
recognition, and will be able to reply to messages such running
application, etc (in example the user will say "start web browser" and
the default web browser will start).

We want you to inform us:

a) if it is important or not for the free software society
b) whether this idea is fashionable or not
c) if any similar projects have already been started
d) if it is possible to implement the system without problems such:
      1. Hardware secrecy.
      2. Software patents.
      3. Non-free libraries.
      etc.
e) if the community will support us in case we start designing and
implemening it
f) if the GNU/Hurd is the right operating system to use (it is still
unstable...)
