be, that you made it look for images in the wrong directory.

image-directory="/var/www/images-gift/@collection-name@

means that if you have collection-name=bilder1
you should have some images in

/var/www/images-gift/bilder1

is this the case? If not, you can look at the full options by calling 

gift-add-collection.pl --help

Don't hesitate to ask further questions or give suggestions what you'd like 
to see when calling gift-add-collection.pl --help.
