for my log file analysis it would be perfectly fine to have the data in
the log file and not in the communication, but I also see Davids point.
It is only a few bytes to send, so not very costly.

I think it should be send/written with the first reply of the server,
where a real session-id is send. Afterwards the connection to other
elements can be made via session-id.
