I just got it working almost out of the box.
The steps are:
Install emacsW32, msys, gs and latex.
Make sure emacs' exec-path or the system PATH includes:
c:/Program Files/MiKTeX 2.5/miktex/bin
Unzip the auctex zip file.
Open eshell and do:
c:/Documents and Settings/be $ (setenv "GS" "c:/Program
Files/gs/gs8.53/bin/gswin32c.exe")
c:/Documents and Settings/be $ cd Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84/
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ sh ./configure
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ make
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ make install
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $
