dvipdfm crashed.  Perhaps it is not installed correctly.

As a work-around, do not build the documentation.  Autoconf 
scripts confuse me, so here's a workaround:  You can prevent it 
from building the manual by going to the man directory 
and "touch gnucap-man.dvi"  then "touch gnucap-man.pdf".

You might want to find out where the dvipdfm problem is, and 
perhaps file a bug report with its maintainer.
