Have you checked the integrity of your ISO before burning? You can do so using the `md5sum` command if you're on another GNU system. The list of checksums for gNewSense images can be found here: cdimage.gnewsense.org/MD5SUMS.

Run `md5sum <path to the image file you downloaded from gnewsense.org>` and then check it against the list of checksums above. If it's not there, your download may have gotten corrupt and you should download and recheck again.

Also, you should let your image burner check the disc after burning. Don't forget to let the image burner cycle the tray to make sure the drive cache is cleared.

Aside from that I have no clue what this could be. Maybe your optical drive is broken? I think burn checking would detect that.
