hi,

I installed a package to unrar files that i found in Synaptic, but
when i try to unrar a .rar file with the "Archive manager" it says it
didn't support rar files.

So, is not possible to unrar with the "Archive manager"? How do you
unrar? with the terminal?

Bye

Can you provide the name of the package? If it's licensed incorrectly
it shouldn't be there. If it is licensed correctly then it needs to
install support to archive manager.

.RAR isn't a free format; the only "free"-software implementation I
can find is one that places restrictions on using it to create .RAR
files. That one is part of 7-zip.

In the meantime, if you wish to open the archive, you have two options:

Ask the sender to repackage the format. Try .bz2
Use the terminal to open the archive.

To make this easier for you, you may wish to install a custom script
extension to Nautilus to allow you to open a terminal to a directory
you're viewing. One of these should do nicely.
