The targets for things to do will be mostly about getting the next
kernel ripped apart and having it cleaner. There has been a lot of
material added and it will need people to look into it deeply.

Considering that we are pointed at LTS which happens to be Dapper. We
are likely to do an upgrade based on the back of gobuntu's Hardy the
next LTS release.

As for independent please define.

You are free to offer to code, please note that if offer the expectation
is that you can meet the conditions that Brian lays out.

To sum them up they are, whatever you do must be scalable and deal with
bug fixes.

On a version by version basis we may change our upstream but there is a
huge amount of leg work for the few people who actually do code at this
stage.

Join the IRC channel (okay you are there) and say hello as we do a fair
bit of yabbering in there. Right now not a lot, but shortly we will be
putting a shout out to take appart the 2.6.24 kernel (afik that is what
will ship).
