shows the situation from October 2006.  It's a known bug, but it takes
longer to bugfix in an autonomous project like debian's than it does
to make a ruling in a new benevolent dictatorship like gNS's, so I
guess some FSF fans will keep flaming debian developers instead of
helping to fix it.

There are other small debian/gNS differences on free software: AIUI,
gNS will contain FDL'd adware manuals which are not free software and
not acceptable in debian; and gNS seems less willing to risk ignoring
bogus software patents than debian.  Personally, I'd say stick with
debian if you already know it, but gNS is a better option for Ubuntu's
usual targets.
