I personally find it... /unlikely/ that gNewSense requires 512MB RAM to
install, but it's good that it's working now.

You need to check which driver your card needs. So, the relevant part of
the output of 'lspci' would be helpful, perhaps in conjunction with
searching Google.

Check that the card is supported in the kernel, that the module is
loaded, and that /etc/network/interfaces contains 'auto eth0' and 'iface
inet eth0 dchp'. Then see whether 'sudo ifup eth0' works.
