Dear all - when you have QUITE finished arguing amongst yourselves.... ;) I feel like the "welcome to the abyss" matrix moment! It's like a vortex of forwards and nit picking in here!! Ok. So, I see if I am going to accomplish anything, I will have to show some leadership qualities (fun fun!). (this all said you do seem lovely.... I think earnest is the word! (and that is apparently an "important" thing to be...heh heh) ) (brakets vortex? kettle black?)

This is my view of the discussion so far (the parts that I managed to find in the vortex anyway):

I am a newbie. I am using ubuntu for reasons of philosophy, and I am willing to deal with the drawbacks for this end. I am running the event, so, much as I will listen carefully to your seasoned and totally contradictory advice, I will make decisions... etc... so sit down and be quiet please. fingers on lips, no talking without the magic talky stick.

I don't come across as a cultist, animal rights psycho or a socialist hard-liner (I get what you mean though), however, there is ZERO point in me running a session aimed at 'normal' people, who don't have a propensity for rule-breaking and system-questioning (FREAKS!!!!!!!!), because I am clearly an odd ball writer with excessively long hair blah blah. The "normals" wont listen to me, so I won't waste my breath on talking at them. If any of you lot feel that you have the skills to run that kind of session, then good luck! (I won't be able to come that day, I will be hidieing under a rock, drinking vegan real ale, talking about the ethics of UV irradiated mushrooms grown in peat and reading the poetry of Leonard Cohen. Deal with it)

So, to be clear: This session WILL be about the philosophy, and it will be AIMED at people who giveashit about the type issues involved (but are new to the specific concept).

I can promise you that this will not be a problem. This promise is not based on me being an experienced, involved, Linux nut (Hi mike! *waves*): this based on me being a middle class writer who has read half of "free software, free society" and half of "a hacker manifesto" and has now installed ubuntu on every machine in the house, learned to use the terminal and made contact with you lot to learn more! TRUST me, I could sell coal to a coal man, and philosophy/ethics is a damn good selling point in today's world. LOTS of people care you know: stop marginalising yourselves! Look in mirror and repeat: "one is not a wounded hamster, one is not a wounded hamster." Besides all of which, I have the capacity to make a half hour talk on philosophy fun and interesting. S'called being a GIRL. (sorry. having a mean day. can't think why...)

ALL of the above said, I don't have any skills to teach people about technical issues as my knowledge is vague and basic and mainly just a bit wrong. So please do help me out.

So, all on board? I will come to the meeting on whenever in December (can some one tell again and then again again please one is I dyslexic)

Full steam ahead what oh!!

Best

Anna

ps: don't run away, it will be great fun I promise, and I am only cross cause I got curry arse and Guiness arse at the same FREEKING time.
