Please check the Enigma options menu for the 'gamma' correction value. The default is 0, but you may incidentially have set it to a very low value. Select a proper gamma value for your screen by mouse clicks on the button.
In case this does not solve your problem you should download 1.01 from our homepage again. Three weeks ago I uploaded a 1.01 Windows compilation with included leading edge versions of all required system libraries. Many bugs have been fixed in the SDL libs since the first 1.01 release.
