I'm a regular R user and think this is a great idea.  A while back I had a 
bunch of problems with Org unexpectedly opening R buffers unexpectedly and I 
had no idea why it was happening.  (In fact I never really did until reading 
this.)  I fixed it by simplifying my R setup and removing some hooks and such, 
and now things work reasonably and I'm familiar with what happens when.  Having 
an option to control this would be a helpful addition.
