Details:

When restoring a single file and the target is a directory, the file should
be placed inside the target using its original name.

Instead, if the directory is empty, it is removed (!) and replaced with the
file in quesiton.  If the directory is not empty, an error is given.

It is also possibly desirable to do the same when the restore path is a
directory.  You could do something like rsync which, when the target ends in a
'/' puts the restored directory inside the target with its original name,
though that might be too annoying.
