I'm pretty biased toward showing units correctly, no matter the
ensuing compatibility arguments. The distillation of the compatibility
argument is: changing this will be painful for scripts. But it's worse
to have the wrong units reported.

I think all you can do is empathize with the pain of broken scripts,
rather than effectively propose all or most script authors prefer to
promote the usage of wrong units just to make their life easier.
