Subject: [bug-inetutils] ftp Connection timed out with a minimal linux 2.4.21 embedded system

Hi,

Im running a minimal linux embedded system on an arm9.
Im booting the system with an initrd.
the initrd contains the kernel (2.4.21, networking is enabled, IP, TCP, UDP protocols) and the rootfs.
the rootfs contains the gnu inetutils and necessary configuration files, like etc/services.

The system is connected through a cross-over cable with another linux machine running an instance of vsftpd.
the ftp-server should be configured correclty since I have tested it with another ftp-client.

ping ip (of the vfstp-server) works.
ifconfig on the embedded system shows now errors but a normal ethernet interface. the thing is that the mac address is kind of strange 11:22:33:44:55:66. but this shouldnt matter!?

the problem:
the command "ftp ip" results in "Connect: Connection timed out" after approx. one minute.

It seems there is a similar problem with telnet. So maybee the problem itself is not ftp-realted but network-configuration?

Any idea is welcome.
And a good step forward for me would be if anyone can send my what's (config files, libs, basic network configuration) by ftp to work.
So far I figured out that. for example the following config-files:
/etc/services
/etc/nsswitch.conf
and following libraries
/lib/libncurses
/lib/libcrypt
/lib/libnsl
/lib/libnss

are as far as i know needed.

thanks.
