- Beyond, the license debate, one reason to look at the GNU/Hurd
  implementation is for sharing code so both project can benefit.

- R. Dawe, pointed that you might one to start a new package GNU nfsd;
  It is a good point, as NFS V2,3 and even WebNFS(Defunct ?) can
  be complex, a big beast that deserve its own package. 

- Take for example the implementation of Ping(Sergey) or Ifconfig(Marcus), they 
share
  a big common layer and the dependent code is pushed down to specific files.
  Sure that NFS can share a lot of independent code.

- Are you sure there is not good implementation of NFS out there ?  IIRC
  GNU/Linux has some very good implementation.

- In any case, it will be your choice 8-), whether you choose UNFS, Hurd NFS, 
some
  BSD implementation etc ...  But if you want to make it a "GNU" package, you 
will
  have to resolve the licensing issue and it can be difficult to get this right

- Why NFS ? why do you want to start an NFS package?  Learning experience?
  Have you look at WebNFS? NFS-V3? is there new revision of NFS out there ?
  Again what's wrong with the known implementations ?
