I'd like to go one step at a time.  However, there are some candidates for
isolation, like the if_nameindex support for systems which don't have it.
Or in general, all the ioctl and socket manipulation stuff ;)
It shouldn't be too hard, as some modularization is already done.  We will
have to be careful that we don't make system specific extensions to the
common functionality impossible.
