we feel that you should know about.
Most projects in these lists aims to develop a program, or a set of programs
that can be used together to form a complete system for some specific task,
but developing software is not mandatory for being a GNU Project.
If you're looking for specific software, you should also look at our

If you are interested in helping the GNU Project,
please have a look at the lists below for some of the projects needing doing,
and are actively seeking volunteers.
Please also look at

set of essential libraries for supporting the Java language.
<li><a href="/projects/dotgnu/index.html">DotGNU</a> is a complete
replacement for the .NET strategy, comprised of multiple software
projects.
<LI><A HREF="/software/ffp/ffp.html">Free Film Project</A> is
a complete set of utilities which, when used together, will
act as a complete virtual film studio.
<LI><A HREF="/software/gpkcs-11/gpkcs-11.html">GPKCS-11</A> is an
implementation of PKCS#11: Cryptographic Token Interface Standard.
<LI><A HREF="/software/cobol/cobol.html">GNU Cobol</A> is
an effort to create a compiler for the Cobol language.
<LI><A href="/software/gnucomm/gnucomm.html" name="Gnucomm">Gnucomm</a>
project aims to provide better solutions to common
telecommunications problems.
<LI><A HREF="/projects/gnue/gnue.html">GNU Enterprise</A> aims at
developing a complete system for various business needs.
<LI><A HREF="/software/glue/glue.html">GNU GLUE</a> aims to
create a distributed groupware application framework
based on emerging new Internet standards, such as XML,
WebDAV and RTSP, suitable for both synchronous and asynchronous
and both on-line and disconnected operation.
<LI>The <A HREF="/software/octal/octal.html">GNU Octal</a> project seeks
to create a set of free components that work
together as a digital music workstation for unix-like systems.
<LI><A HREF="/software/gyve/gyve.html">GYVE</A> stands for ``the GNU
Yellow Vector Editor''. It is a vector-based drawing program
in the spirit of Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
<LI><A HREF="/software/harmony/harmony.html">Harmony</A> is
aimed at creating an API-compatible replacement for the Qt toolkit.
<LI>The <A HREF="/software/hurd/hurd.html">HURD</A> is the kernel of
the GNU system.
