Follow-up Comment #2:

WeeChat uses a prefix and timestamp for each line, so URL can not be
displayed using whole line. Morever, bars like nicklist or buffers can disturb
display of URLs and you'll not be able to click on it.

So best solution is to use a script like urlbar, urlgrab, or other scripts.
