   file ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/hurd/contrib/marcus/gnu-latest.tar.gz
   which doesn't exists as I have heard that server is taken down
   because of compromise.

   I was instructed on #hurd (@freenode) IRC channel that latest
   version is available from
   http://people.debian.org/~rmh/gnu/gnu.tar.bz2, should that version
   be mentioned on that documentation too or otherwise published?

No idea, that link should probobly point to the Debian page that
contains a updated version of Neal's guide.
