Afaik it's an often employed hack to get some email clients to work.
There's some nice website about it somewhere that explains that very
ancient mail apps handled it properly but some 'modern' ones don't
manage to do it since years or even decades...

Yet my client manages to reply to 'list' by default, somehow, but
there's also the choice to reply to 'sender', 'all' or 'custom'. Choice
but sane defaults, the way it should be :)

It is on any list I was ever subscribed to, well maybe not here, but
it's a PITA to read and make sense of the messages that never arrived at
the list due to the reply issue. This kind of makes the point why top
posting is a bad idea all by itself.
