Well, that's strange. What happens if you run "emacs -Q"?
Furthermore, you ought to run Emacs 23.3 / Tramp 2.2.11. Maybe there are
some installation problems with Tramp? Did you install it as described
(autoconf; ./configure; make)? Do you have shadow load paths with Tramp?
