It does with Tramp 2.1.
Background: "y" is bound to dired-show-file-type, which applies
call-process internally. "!" is bound to dired-do-shell-command, which
uses shell-command internally.
Execution of call-process on remote hosts is implemented in Tramp 2.1
only.
