XEmacs segfault at startup w/ tramp 2.1.7

I downloaded tramp 2.1.7 to my Mac today.  When I start up XEmacs and the
new tramp directory is in load-path I get a segmentaion violation.  Here's
the beginning of the backtrace:

This continues for hundreds of frames.  I'm running XEmacs 21.5 beta25
(eggplant).  Any idea what's going on?  Is there more information I can
provide which will help narrow down the problem?
