Hi Gavin - I saw a suggestion (related to another package) to use
  -fsanitize=address,undefined
with gcc to check for some memory problems.
Also
  LSAN_OPTIONS=detect_leaks=0
to avoid reports on memory leaks, if they are too numerous.

Perhaps that would be useful for the parts of Texinfo that are still in C.
