Sorry for the confusion I got it wrong.  The real question is

I there is some text like

  THING). Other thing.

should the space be doubled?

Right now if there is something like 

  THING.) Other thing.

the space is not doubled 
(and for

  THING.)  Other thing.

the double space is replaced by a simple space).
