Dear Friends,

we are happy to announce the new Synaptic 0.50 release.

It's a big update with a lot of code rewriten and a lot of GUI
changes. We hope that synaptic is now simpler, nicer and more HIG
compliant.

Here are the NEWS:
 - new GUI (thanks to Sebastian and Gustavo for there _great_ work)
 - removed "hold" support (used to be implemented via apt pins, may
   come back later)
 - removed debtags support (will come back later)
 - much improved vte terminal support
 - Package list is much faster now when compiled with gtk-2.4
 - Debian: Recommended/Suggested can be installed by right-click menu
   now
 - Debian: Downloading the debian changelog is possible now

It is recommended to build against Gtk2.4. This will improve the
performance of the packagelist dramatically. If you build with
terminal widget as output, please choose vte instead of zvt.

You can get it at:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/synaptic/synaptic-0.50.tar.gz

This release is tested on debian and SuSE 9.0/9.1 systems. There may
be issues with non-english descriptions on suse systems. Reports to
track this issues down are welcome.

Please report any problems so that we can fix them :)

thanks,
 Michael
