I'm not sure what you mean by "bionic" in this context, but there have
been Swarm models (that is models implemented in Swarm) that have
investigated "swarming" behaviour in animals like you mention.  In
fact, one of the motivations for the project was to develop a
framework to make the implementation of exactly this class of models
easier, without making too many assumptions about the domain, other
than you typically have many instances of agents that interact.

Think of it this way: Swarm is more like a set of Lego bricks that you
can assemble many different kind of models from, rather than a box
with a single model inside that you tweak with various parameter
"knobs".
