I think Swarm is referred to as a discrete-event simulator because the 
user defines specific actions (events) and tells Swarm when to execute 
them. But Swarm has a clock and most Swarm models schedule each action 
to be executed once each click of the clock- essentially, discrete time 
simulation.

There are lots of alternatives though: you can dynamically create 
actions and put them on the schedule wherever you want. ('Do this next' 
or 'Do this 1.7 time steps from now'). See the example model 
"Mousetrap", designed to illustrate dynamic scheduling. You can also 
randomize the order in which actions are executed each time step. Look 
at the Activity library.
