Dear all:

I'm sending this on behalf of my former supervisor, Julian
Wimpenny. Please reply to him directly:

A Post Doctoral Research Fellowship is available to work in the
Cardiff School of Biosciences with Professor Julian Wimpenny. The
project will be microbiological and in collaboration with Dr Jan
Kreft, on the development of individual based models of
biofilms. Salary starts at £18,655 per year (Point 5 on the RA1A
scale).

Further details

The Post Doctoral Fellowship is awarded for two years due to special
circumstances. The project is not allied to any particular topic, in
other words it will reflect the interests of Professor Wimpenny but
details can be sorted out by discussion on making the appointment. A
main interest is, in collaboration with Dr Jan Kreft who is leaving
this department to take up an appointment at the University of Bonn in
Germany, to continue the development and application of a computer
system designed to model the structure of microbial aggregates
including biofilms, colonies etc., called BacSim. This is a powerful
and relevant tool to examine any biological system in which it is
necessary to investigate the structure of communities of
individuals. Some experience in computer programming, especially in
Java and Matlab, would be helpful.

More information on BacSim can be found at:
