Catdoc does indeed work for extracting text from word.docs, although of
course people would only use it if they felt even the minimal effort really
worthwhile.

So download programs from Russian hackers, and feel cool. (as I post this
message off from Outlook, and can only barely restrain myself from sending
it in HTML.)
P.S. What is a pre-doctoral position, anyway?
