This is almost degenerating into bikeshedding, but, since you asked,
I'll state my position on this again. :-)

I feel that we should follow the recommendation of the autotools folks
and not have a build/autogen.sh at all.  "historical reasons" are not
always a reason to keep things the way they are, especially if the
authors of the tools we are using recommend otherwise.  Maybe there
wasn't an autoreconf when build.sh was put into the tree to start with,
or maybe it didn't work right back then.  Also, my patch includes the
necessary documentation changes, so if anyone is used to running
build.sh, they would be able to find out what they should do easily
enough.
