I don't think a subdomain would be harder for their own subdomain... but 
anyway, for a single user mode, it figures it would not require any 
extra username.

So, for a large hosted installation, a username in subdomain is the way 
to go, ~, /u/,  /user/ is ugly.

For single user, whatever folder the software is installed at will be 
enough. ie http://mattl.biz/photos/
