The nongnu approach might be reasonable. (But the request is not mine!)
My understanding is, the target project is time-constrained, and we
have a lot to do as it is already.
All that is needed is an official home for the sources.

Hi Aljoscha - as you wrote, the evaluation process is
http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html. Steve's endorsement is certainly
welcome, but does not automatically make this a GNU package. Only rms can dub
new GNU packages (at the end of the evaluation process).
The simplest thing here would be to treat this as nongnu for now; and if the
author wishes it to be considered for GNU, he can submit it for evaluation in
the normal way, per that web page.
