March 28th 2010 in GNU Savannah task #10245: "Submission of Geiser"
We are having a miscommunication. I agree you deserve the credit for
your effort in Geiser. My point is: free software developers are not
the owners of the software they develop, because in free software the
idea of property and ownership is pointless.
A *software owner* is a individual whose aims to fully controll what
the users do with the software he owns in a propietary manner as
Google do with my mail, as do Microsoft with it operating systems, and
so... There isn't this types of owners in free software world because
each user can do what he wants with his copy, as it should be.
I'm pretty sure you released Geiser as free software because you want
to give users to have freedom with it, not because you want to have
propietary control over what the users do with their copy of Geiser,
so I don't think "owner" is an appropiate term IMO, I suggest
"developer".
In a similar manner, "stealing" code is
>I could nitpick at you, tear my robes, and say that using an email
>from a proprietary, non-free hosting service
I don't like Gmail at all, but what service should I use instead?.
All the services I know have the same problem as Gmail: They Offers
software as a service, don't gives you privacity and have propietary
JavaScript scripts. If you know of any than don't have this problem
please tellme :).
>in official communications as a GNU maintainer does more harm than
>calling Geiser "my humble attempt at bringing slime to the Scheme
>world."
I don't object that pharse. What I do object (As explained above) is
"my GNU MDK package" and "i'm already stealing some code".
