Workaround:
People can download the latest lightning without downloading all the history,
using "shallow checkouts". See
http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-clone.html for details and
limitations.

(Note that the lightning git repository is currently around 1MB. The sources
by themselves, without .git are 2MB. Where do you get 4.8MB?)
