Sorry if the question is too simple, but are you a member of the
'classpath' project?
I am not, and I get the same error message as you, but if I try to
checkout it as anonymous user I can get it:
$ cvs -d address@hidden:/cvsroot/classpath co classpath
cvs server: Updating classpath
U classpath/.cvsignore
U classpath/AUTHORS
U classpath/BUGS
