A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Ryan Golbeck <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: GNU Cron
System name: cron
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
This project has not yet been started.
The purpose of the project is to create a replacement for Vixie cron that is
backward compatable with Vixie cron to maintain the usefulness of currently
written scripts.
Reasoning:
Vixie cron has been a much exploited application, and new vulnerabilities are
still being discovered. In addition, the maintainer has not made an update to
this package since 1993. This is causing forked efforts by distributions to
keep cron up-to-date security wise for their distributions.
Cron is a critical utility of a GNU system, so it is important that this
package be well written, secure, and well maintained.
There are three primary goals of this project:
1) Establishing a well coded and security concious cron daemon.
2) Be easy to work with from scripts and simple to use for users while
retaining compatability with current cron daemons.
3) To provide advanced and extended features for the GNU/Hurd operating system.
