Hi Kirsten,

I'm not sure exactly how they were "encrypted". That's not a feature of
rdiff-backup. I hope that you've got what look like your original files
and an rdiff-bakcup directory.
What exactly are you restoring? The latest version or an earlier version?
If the latest version, you shouldn't need to do anything: you now have
your files back. (If you need to get the permissions as well, then you'll
need to use the rdiff-backup command to restore those).
Man pages are still pretty inscrutable to me. "man rdiff" on my
terminal says "No manual entry for rdiff" (I get this sort of message a
lot, and I don't know why), but http://linux.die.net/man/1/rdiff says
that there are three steps to "updating" a file, signature, delta, and
patch:
The program is rdiff-backup. It uses something like rdiff internally, but
I don't think you need to worry about that. Try "man rdiff-backup".
I have files of these sorts:
duplicity-full.20130918T163827Z.vol1.difftar
duplicity-full-signatures.20130918T163827Z.sigtar
duplicity-inc.20130918T163827Z.to.20130920T024153Z.manifest
duplicity-inc.20130918T163827Z.to.20130920T024153Z.vol1.difftar
duplicity-new-signatures.20130918T163827Z.to.20130920T024153Z.sigtar
with multiple "full" and "inc." volumes.
That's not rdiff-backup at all, it's Duplicity. Same author, completely
different program. You'd need to ask on the support list for that instead.
Cheers, Chris.
