So after unchecking ignore permissions I get

why are the permissions not carried over?

I'm running rdiff as an admin user using sudo

sudo rdiff-backup --create-full-path --verbosity 4 --print-statistics  
--exclude-globbing-filelist $HOME/backup_excludes.txt --exclude-other- 
filesystems --exclude-sockets / "${GRAID_VOLUME}/rdiff-backups/ 
Macintosh SSD"
