There are some programs to overcome this problem:
- BoxBackup http://www.fluffy.co.uk/boxbackup/ (does this rather good,
is under active development and considered stable)
- DIBS http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~emin/source_code/dibs/ (not sure
about this)
