Neither. It's much more simplistic than any of those. Rather, I'm thinking
of this:

dir1/
dir2/
dir3/
.
.
.
dirN/
file1
file2
file3
.
.
.
.

I'm just looking for a quick way to skip past all the dirs in the filelist
and get to file1 immediately.
