I'm down to one nit for this series[1] and given Paolo's reviewed-bys
for the minor tweaks to common code, I think we're finally about ready
for liftoff on this code.  I'll let AlexG decided whether he's satisfied
with the discussion on 5/7 before I pull them in though.  Thanks,
