FreeDOS is an alternative to consider.

The bootable CD-ROM image will avoid the need to switch diskettes or 
diskette images.  Simpler installation procedure.  Likely a mailing 
list relevant to FreeDOS operates somewhere.  Several years since I've 
looked.
