LS,
I was trying to use qemu 4.1. under opensuse tumbleweed, had compiled
it myself for opensuse 15.1, but none is able to get a network
connection.
When I switched back to qemu 3.1.1, there is no problem.
I tried various settings like '-net nic.....', '-nic tap....' and even
'-netdevĀ ..', to o avail.
What has changed so drastically that qemu is not getting a IP-address
anymore?

Small correction, It is working under opensuse 15.1, albeit spice is not
possible because of the (very) old spice client.
So, maybe it is not qemu, but opensuse tumbleweed itself is the culprit?
Let's close this discussion and I try again under tumbleweed. Maybe the
supplied version is not working, but maybe when I compile it myself it
is working, or..... lets just try it.
