There is an overall benefit with virtio as it is more efficient on both the host and the guest.Then, during the installation, before the media selection and the actual partitioning you are given a chance to install extra drivers. No, if network and disk are not virtio, you don't need virtio drivers for them.

Most probably VirtIO Balloon
