[Qemu-discuss] where is plan9 fs going

Dear qemu-discuss,

I'm using Plan9 to share contents of a host's filesystem as part of one of my
projects with success. I realized that unfortunately some Linux distributions
ship out major releases without Plan9 FS support enabled in the kernel by
default, and the module is not available in more recent versions as an
installable package either.

While technically it is not a problem to build the module, this makes me wonder
whether there any considerations to possibly depreciate the technology in favor
of something else by you on the longer run. From your perspective, how lively
is the maintenance around qemu's Plan9 support, and do you have any suggestions
as for any alternatives?

SMB support in qemu is not an option for me, as I need a tap/tun style setup
for real ICMP, therefore I cannot use user-mode networking.

Thank you in advance for any hints.

Regards,
