There must be something wrong. Below is my test:

gentoo-company qemu-1.0 # ./configure --prefix=/tmp/qemu --target-list="i386-softmmu x86_64-softmmu" --disable-kvm
gentoo-company qemu-1.0 # make && make install 
gentoo-company qemu-1.0 # /tmp/qemu/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 --version
QEMU emulator version 1.0, Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard

it seems all things right. maybe you should set  "--prefix" to configure script.

I think you have installed qemu in /usr/local. But qemu version 0.14 was installed in /usr.
Check it with command "which qemu" and "/usr/local/bin/qemu --version"

I have downloaded qemu 1.0 source tar file from qemu site

Then I run

./configure

Make

Make install

But

# qemu �version

The version still not get updated

Can anyone tell what to do
