there is a misspell (or whatever, sorry for my english) in the file 
messages.php in phpgroupware/chat

you have to replace this line:

datenbankfield='loginid'; (datenbank! wtf  :x)

by 

databasefield='loginid';

this is located in line ~62

note: the original line does not have the string '(datenbank! wtf)'
